Are Olives Fattening?
Olives are fattening, but there is no reason to get alarmed. Olives are rich in the right kinds of fat.
Olives are full of monounsaturated fat, in fact nearly 75% of the fat in olives comes from this kind of fat. In five large olives there is the same amount of fat as in one teaspoon of olive oil. There is also a healthy dose of vitamin A and Calcium, making olives one of the most healthy fatty foods available.
Olives are rich in the right kind of fat, but you still need to watch the amount you consume. Eating an entire jar of olives in one sitting is not recommended if you are trying to lose weight. The best thing to do is limit your consumption to ten small olives or five large olives, which contain the same amount of fat.
Monounsaturated fat found in olives is good for the body in that it provides a heart healthy fat that reduces cholesterol and a person’s risk for heart disease. Monounsaturated fats are found in foods such as olives, avocados and some nuts. These are all foods that if eaten in moderation can reduce cholesterol levels.
Even though olives are fattening, they contain the perfect fat for your heart health. While you should never overdo it, eating them in moderation can be good for you.
