The number of calories burned in dancing varies by the type and intensity. Many people enjoy dancing for fun and fitness.

There are literally 100’s of different types of dances so theres no way we can go into that amount of detail. For the sake of calories burned, we’ll classify dances as light, moderate and intense. Light intensity burns about 200-275 calories per hour depending on your weight, height, gender and fitness level.

A medium level of intensity can burn as many as 275-400 calories per hour.
High intensity, such as aerobics and cardio dancing classes can burn as many as 400-1,000 calories per 60 minute session.

Dancing is great because the movement often incorporate the major muscle groups as well as the heart. Anyone who has watched the hit television show Dancing With the Stars has seen just how toned the dancers are. There’s not a single ounce of fat on any of them.

Dancing is one of the perfect exercises to help you build lean muscle mass, improve your cardio, and help you become more fluid and flexible.

If you are a novice, try signing up for a low impact cardio dance class at your local gym or community center. This will ease you into it. As you can see, calories burned in dancing is a great way to get in shape and lose weight.
