Why Do I Get So Bloated After I Eat?

Many people experience the feeling of being bloated and gaseous after they eat a meal. Now you may be asking yourself, “Why do I get so bloated after I eat?” The answer to that question has many possible answers.

The most plausible answer lies with what type of food you eat. Foods high in fat, carbs, and sugar can make you feel bloated because fat delays the stomach emptying and increases the feeling of being full. Many times we over eat these foods and have a full stomach in addition to gas and heartburn.

Another reason you may feel extra bloated is a medical problem such as Celiac Disease, lactose intolerance or acid reflux. If you experience these symptoms even after eating a healthy meal then you will want to see your health care provider right away.

Stress and anxiety may also cause bloating. These two deadly emotions cause all sorts of hormonal imbalances in the body that can throw your intestinal track way off base. If you’ve just started experiencing bloating there may be a connection between your symptoms and stressful situations or circumstances going on in your life.

Other causes for bloating include smoking, a recent change in diet, and eating excess carbohydrates. Bloating is hard to identify because there are so many possible reasons for it. Begin by eliminating causes one at a time to find out.
