Are Avocados Fattening?

Yes, avocados are fattening, but considered to be full of the good fat. Avocados are full of nutrition, including 15 grams of unsaturated fat in one medium sized avocado.

Avocados supply a healthy source of unsaturated fat, not the saturated fat you find in fast food, junk food or fried pastries.

Avocados are considered one of the healthiest forms of fat a person can eat and are often included on the meal plans of those trying to lose weight because a certain amount of healthy fat is required for the body.

Avocados supply the system with a solid source of fiber, potassium, vitamin B6, folate and vitamin C.  A substantial dose of vitamin K is even found in avocados.

In a half of medium sized avocado there are approximately 155-165 calories, 15 grams of unsaturated fat and only 2 grams of saturated fat. It is the unsaturated fat that is good for lowering cholesterol levels and improving heart health.

Avocados may seem a little greasy in texture and feel because of the amount of fat they contain.  They are rich in unsaturated fats but should not be avoided because of this fact.  If overeaten, they can pack on some pounds, but if eaten in reasonable portions can provide the body with exactly the amount of healthy fat it requires.

While avocados are fattening, they are truly one of the healthiest forms of fat a person can consume.
