How Many Calories In Scallops?

Scallops are one of the more popular seafood dishes, but doused in butter and there can be a lot of calories.  If you have wondered exactly how many calories are in scallops, we have done the research.

In five standard sized scallops, weighing a total of just over an ounce, there are about 27 calories.  In one ounce of scallops there are 25 calories and in two large sized scallops there are about 26 calories. This is not a lot of calories, but when you add other ingredients like bacon fat, butter, sour cream, tartar sauce or other products, the calorie content can drastically increase.

In one serving weight four ounces there are about 100 calories.  This is a typical serving size received in a restaurants.  The added butter could raise the calorie count from 100 to 250 or higher.  In this same sized portion there is 1 gram of fat and 38 mg of cholesterol.

Scallops contain a lot of protein and in one ounce of scallops, which contains 25 calories and 0.2 grams of fat, there are 5 grams of protein. That is quite a bit of protein for such a small piece of meat. Scallops also contain a lot of potassium and calcium.  They are a lean meat that is low in calories if extra sauces are eliminated.  Keeping portion sizes low is wise when eating scallops, especially if you are trying to cut calories.
