How Many Calories in Pistachios?

Pistachio Nuts are high in calories, high in fat and filled with nutrients. Whether you eat dry roasted, salted or plain pistachios, you cannot escape the high calorie content in the nuts.  There are 160 calories in one ounces of pistachios.

Pistachios are high in calories because they are chalked full of fat.  In fact, in one ounce of pistachios there are about 14 grams of fat, 2 grams of which are saturated.  There are no low-cal nuts available on the market, so when it comes to keeping the calorie content low in pistachios you must look at the size of the portion.  The smaller the better.

Nuts are filling because they are rich in dietary fiber and protein, especially considering their small size.  In one ounce of pistachios there are 3 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein.  While the nutrients are great, it is recommended that only small portions be eaten in order to keep the calories low.

You won’t see a lot of nuts on a dietary menu for someone trying to lose weight.  The high fat and calorie content keeps the nuts off the recommended list.  However, if you must, unsalted pistachios can provide ample protein and saturated fat if eaten in reason.  Pistachios can be fairly easy to consume within reason because they must be shelled prior to eating. Taking the time to remove the shells can impact how many calories you consume.
