8 Foods Responsible For Weight Gain

There are numerous factors behind rising obesity in the world; one of the major causes is what we eat. Certain foods increase the chance of weight gain and should be avoided if you are considering losing weight.

Alcohol & Beer

Alcohol can be a major contributing factor behind weight gain and obesity. Although all alcohol products are associated with weight gain, beer is especially notorious. It contains high calories, carbohydrates and fat, all of which are known agents behind weight gain. A single bottle of beer contains approximately 153 calories and is high in carbohydrates.

Donuts

Although donuts are a common breakfast option, they are known for causing weight gain. It is because donuts are filled with carbohydrates and the sugar coating provides extra calories. Donuts should be avoided altogether if you want to lose weight. In addition to the high calorie count and carbohydrates, donuts don’t provide much nutritional content. A single donut contains about 192 calories.

French Fries

French fries taste great and are hard to resist, but they are nothing but carbohydrates and fats. A medium plate of French fries comes laden with 271 calories. It is with a heavy heart and low cholesterol that we must put these convenient and delicious morsels on our ban list when trying to lose weight. 

Fruit Juice

Fruit juice sounds like such a healthy option. People insist on eating fruits and vegetables to prevent weight gain so it feels right that fruit juice should be a healthy as well. However, having fruit juice is not as healthy as eating natural fruit which contains more nutrition. A 10 oz. glass of orange juice contains 140 calories.

Potato Chips

Potatoes are laden with carbohydrates and can lead to weight gain even when consumed in baked or mashed form. Fried potatoes, on the other hand, contain additional fat and hence contribute to weight gain (hello again, french fries). 1 oz. of potato chips is loaded with a whopping 150 calories.

Processed Meat

Processed meats must be avoided as they can lead to not only weight gain but heart-related ailments including heart attacks and stroke. These can be substituted with healthier options such as lean beef or chicken.

Soda

Soda is considered to be one of the main causes of weight gain as it is packed with calories, contains caffeine and contains no nutritional value. 1 can of this carbonated beverage contains, on average, 137 calories per can.

Whole Dairy Products

Whole milk and other dairy products contain high amounts of fat and carbohydrates. Although they also tend to contain a good amount of proteins, it is best to drink low fat or nonfat milk instead of whole milk. One cup of whole milk contains 150 calories.
