There are many calories in cheesecake, but maybe not as much as you think depending on your slice. Yes, a large slab of New York Cheesecake topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of raspberries could set you back over 400 calories, but opting for a slender slice and eliminating the fatty whipped cream can cut the calorie content in half. In a small slice of strawberry cheesecake there are approximately 200 calories, and even that can be cut if you make it yourself.
Most restaurants offer strawberry cheesecake as a dessert option. While you typically don’t have control over the size of slice you receive, you do have control over the amount you put into your mouth.
One of the best ways to cut calories when eating a piece of cheesecake is to share it. For example, let’s say you receive a piece of cheesecake that contains 500 calories. If you eat the entire piece you will, not surprisingly, have consumed 500 calories, but if you share the piece with one or two other people, you will have consumed half or a third of the calorie content. You can drastically cut calories if you share the piece with someone else. If you have a fear of germs or just plain don’t like to share, try eating half the slice and taking the other half home with you to be eaten at a later time.
