How Many Calories in a Navel Orange?

There are many varieties of oranges out there which can mean a big difference in calories. This leaves one wondering how many calories are in a Navel Orange?

There are approximately 80 calories in one cup of navel oranges without the peel and membranes, and in one medium-large sized navel orange there is 150-160 calories.  The navel orange is one of the most popular of the orange varieties and is often seen on a number of weight loss menus and diet plans.  Eating a navel orange can be very refreshing, especially for dieters who are sticking to a restrictive menu.  The orange can be eaten as a dessert to help keep away the food cravings for sugar because of the sweet factor that navel oranges offer.

A navel orange offers no fat, approximately 15-20 grams of carbohydrates depending on the size of the orange, and 1-2 grams of protein per orange.  There is a healthy dose of vitamin C in each orange which helps to boost the immune system, which is why they are so popular in grocery stores during the winter months when cold season hits.

The low calorie content makes navel oranges a great snack to be eaten in between meals.  They do contain fiber, so the stomach is filled up and satiated for longer periods of time than if you were to consume high carb snacks.  While navel oranges do offer some carbs, they are not refined and contain very little sugar.  The low number of calories in a Navel Orange makes them ideal for losing weight.
