Martinis are a popular drink selection when hitting the club or bar for a night on the town. For people wanting to lose weight it is helpful to know how many calories they are consuming when drinking a martini.
The traditional martini made with gin and vermouth clocks in at 145 calories. That number is based on a 3.5 ounce serving size.
That’s quite a few empty calories to consume. And most people consume more than one when they’re out. By drinking two martinis you’ve just added 290 calories to your diet. That’s about 12% of your total caloric intake for a 2,000 calorie diet. Not good!
Many people like vodka martinis compared to gin martinis. The calorie count is the same in vodka martinis provided you use the same amount of vodka and vermouth.
Nowadays there are several versions of the martini such as apple martinis. These have even more calories in them. One 2.5 ounce “appletini” has 165 calories in it – and that’s an entire ounce less than the traditional 3.5 ounce martini.
So as you can see, martinis are weight loss killers, especially given the fact that most people consume multiple martinis while out. There’s no reason you can’t enjoy one now and again, but if you really want to get serious about weight loss then you’re going to have to try and avoid martinis as much as possible.
