Hard Boiled Eggs are often enjoyed as a stand-alone snack or also as the “salad” portion of an egg salad sandwich. Many professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts and dieters eat copious amounts of eggs on a daily basis. But just how many calories in a hard boiled egg are there?
In one large hard boiled egg there are 79 calories. That’s actually quite a few given how small one hard boiled egg is. Along with the 79 calories there are 7 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat and less than .5 grams of carbs. Overall, hard-boiled eggs provide good nutrition in the form of vitamins, minerals and protein.
Most of the calories come from the yolk portion of the egg. In fact, the egg white only contains about 20 calories, but do have over half of the protein.
A great way to enjoy hard boiled eggs is to not eat the yolk with every egg. Egg yolks have a lot of cholesterol in them – about 220 mg per yolk. That’s quite a bit and can add up especially if you’re eating more than one hard-boiled egg, which most people end up doing.
If you’re going to eat hard-boiled eggs as part of your diet consider eating just one yolk for every three to four eggs you consume. That way you cut way down on the cholesterol yet still get plenty of protein.
