Sleeping does not make you taller, but it is one of the major components for optimal growth and development. Sleep is as necessary as getting adequate amounts of water, food and exercise when it comes to developing the right way. Studies show that serious sleep deprivation in children may actually stunt their growth. Children need adequate amounts of sleep in order to grow and develop the right way. When they are sleep deprived, the body is in constant stress mode.
This does not mean that getting hours upon hours of extra sleep as an adult is going to give you the height of an NBA player. Once you reach 16 or 17 years of age, you are done growing. It is what you do as a child that can impact your future height and weight.
The average adult gets about 7 hours of sleep per night. Doctors today are arguing that 8 and 9 hours of sleep per night is optimal. Sleep allows the body to go into a restful state and, in a sense, detox from the daily routine. While sleep has a lot of benefits as an adult, making you taller is not one of them.
