Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world. We all know how fattening those popular coffee drinks can be. In fact, some latte type drinks can have as many as 1,000 calories in them. But does black coffee have calories? Let’s take a look at the facts.
A study done by the United States Department of Agriculture showed that the typical black coffee had on average two calories per eight ounces. The two calories typically comes from the extra oil that can build up and does not even come from the beans. Decaf and black coffee are the same in terms of calorie content.
If you’re going to drink coffee, black is the way to go. In fact, the same study by the United States Department of Agriculture showed that consuming two cups of coffee on a daily basis is actually good for you because coffee is high in antioxidants.
Most of the calorie content comes from the additives that make your coffee drink taste so good. For example, one McDonalds mocha has 350 calories in it along with several teaspoons of sugar. If you’re going to order a coffee it’s best to go straight black or something like a Starbuck’s Caffe Americano that only has 15 calories per 16 ounces.
If you absolutely need something in your coffee try all natural sweeteners like Stevia and low fat milk.
