Do Plums Make You Poop?

Plums contain a large supply of fiber, both soluble and insoluble.  As a result of these properties, plums do make you poop.

Plums, much like prunes, have thick skin.  This skin is considered to be roughage and makes up the bulk of both the soluble and insoluble fiber found in the plum.  Most plant type foods contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. There are a lot of benefits in consuming both soluble and insoluble fiber foods.

Some of the most common benefits include softening the stool and shortening the transition time through the digestive and intestinal tract. In other words, the bowel movement time is sped up when you eat plums or other foods that contain soluble and insoluble fiber. Plums soften the stool and help prevent you from becoming constipated.  Plums are a great fiber source that processes food through the intestinal tract and keeps things moving smoothly and efficiently.
However, there are a few disadvantages to eating plums, especially if overeaten.

Eating too many plums at one sitting can cause bloating or gas production.  This may cause a few embarrassing moments if the intake is not in moderation.
It is important to watch your portions of high fiber foods, like plums because plums do make you poop.  Watching the portions can eliminate some problems that may occur with overeating.
