If you want to lose weight you need to expend more calories than you consume. This is what is known as a calorie deficit. There’s a fine line between a healthy calorie deficit versus starving yourself. Experts say you should never consume less than 1,200 calories on a consistent basis. Doing so results in loss of muscle and deficiencies in important vitamins and minerals.
Some people want to know if you can lose weight eating 1,500 calories per day? The answer is yes. Although this is a fairly restrictive diet, you should be able to get the proper nutrients provided the 1,500 calories is made up of fruits, vegetables, and lean protein.
This low level of caloric intake may be a bit too restrictive for an adult male and is more suitable for an adult female. Adult males typically need to consume more because of their increased size and muscle mass.
Most people burn more than 1,500 calories in a day just by performing their regular routines. That means if you stick to your 1,500 calories per day you will be running a calorie deficit. A consistent calorie deficit will result in weight lost.
If you add in some form of physical activity you will up the deficit and lose more weight. Again, 1,500 calories is just about the limit of where you want to go with your diet in order to stay strong and healthy.
