Can You Lose Weight Eating 1000 Calories A Day?

While you may lose weight eating 1000 calories a day at first, or for the first few days, you are less likely to keep the weight off as time goes on.  Doctors frown upon eating less than 1200 calories a day, and consuming under 1000 calories a day is even worse.  The impact this low cal diet has on your metabolism can cause adverse effects on your weight loss efforts.

Many people, especially women, who opt for the HCG diet, eat well under 1000 calories a day, only to find themselves gaining all the weight back and then some over the next several months.  They may see solid weight loss numbers at first, but the metabolism is greatly impacted over time.  This means that when you consume less than 1000 calories a day over a period of time, your body recognizes that it is in starvation mode.  Stress hormones are released and your body fights to conserve energy.  This means that fat is also conserved and the metabolic rate begins to slow down.

When the metabolic rate slows, weight loss simply doesn’t occur.  The best way to speed up your metabolism is to eat the right kinds of food several times a day and incorporate a healthy dose of exercise.  Restricting calories too much has the opposite effect on weight loss and you may find yourself starving for no reason!
