Can Pregnant Women Take Baths?

Taking a bath has a lot of benefits, even for pregnant women. Given this, baths are safe for pregnant women as long as the water temperature is not too high.

Many people ask if pregnant women can take baths and this is somehow due to the belief that the water can get into the uterus. However, you shouldn’t worry about this because the uterus has mucus that acts as a plug to keep away bath water, which protects your baby.

One thing to remember is to keep the water’s temperature warm. This way, you can prevent your body temperature from reaching more than 102.2 degrees Fahrenheit, which can be very bad for you and your body. Too much heat can lead to low blood pressure. If this happens, your baby won’t get enough oxygen and nutrients, increasing the risk having a miscarriage.

Dizziness and weakness can be experienced by soon-to-be-mothers who bathed in hot water. Birth defects are another risk of using hot bath water. Given all these risks, you should avoid saunas and steam baths while you are pregnant. Having a bath can be very relaxing for a pregnant woman. Sore muscles and other body pains can be eased with warm water. Ensure that you limit your bath-time and exhaust caution in stepping in and out of the tub.
