Calories In Steamed Broccoli

Steamed Broccoli is one of the best foods you can eat when trying to cut calories and lose weight.  There are not a lot of calories found in steamed broccoli, but there is a lot of nutritional value.

While there are many different methods to prepare broccoli, steaming the vegetable is probably the most healthy and convenient means.  In a one cup serving size of steamed broccoli there are about 25 calories and just under 5 grams of carbohydrates.  In this same one cup serving size there are 2 grams of protein and hardly any fat to speak of.

In two cups of steamed broccoli, which is a standard serving size, there are 52 calories.  Bodybuilders and nutritional experts swear by eating two to four cups of broccoli a day accompanied with a healthy and lean portion of protein, such as chicken or fish.

Steamed broccoli is not only low in calories but provides a wonderful array of nutrients and vitamins.  Steamed broccoli is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants that boost your immune system.  Also, the high fiber content provides great nutrition for the digestive tract, keeping things regular.  For anyone counting calories and keeping their consumption low, broccoli is the perfect food.  Not only is it rich in fiber, but keeps your stomach fuller, making you less likely to eat between meals and destroy your diet.
