Calories In Smoked Salmon

Salmon is considered one of the best protein sources and diet foods available, primarily because of its low number of calories and high protein content.  Smoked salmon is no different! There are few calories in smoked salmon, and its rich in protein making it a superb diet food. In one eight-ounce portion size of smoked salmon there are approximately 225 calories.

In this same sized portion of smoked salmon there are 10 grams of fat, 4 grams of carbohydrates and 32 grams of protein. Alaskan wild caught salmon is among the lowest in calorie content.

To keep the calories in smoked salmon at their lowest, you must prepare the salmon with light seasoning before smoking.  In an eight-ounce size of salmon prepared in this manner there are about 160 calories.

In an eight-ounce serving size of smoked salmon smothered in teriyaki sauce there are about 233 calories.  If you are trying to keep your calories in smoked salmon low and not consume a lot, it is important to restrict the sauce or amount of sauce added to the fish.  Smoking the fish is best!

Smoked salmon is a lean protein meat that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids.  The nutritional value is great for providing the body with healthy fat that works to keep cholesterol levels low and heart disease at bay.
